How long have you been in existence?
The group was founded in 1998 by several Clearance professionals. We currently have 97 members mostly based in the Southern California area. It is an all volunteer corporate association registered as a 501(c)3 Non Profit Group
How are you funded?
The operating budget is exclusively funded by dues and occasional sponsorships from companies in our industry. All director positions are voluntary and no one is paid. Our group is a labor of love and dedication among its members to pool our resources and dues to expand our reach.
What services do you offer your members?
We are a networking and educational group, We have a very active message list through the Yahoo Groups system where you can access the collective intelligence of the membership. This is our prime offering with over 9000 archived messages that can be searched. For example; If you need estate info for Sammy Davis Jr., Its in there, if not a quick message to the group will usually be returned with a current contact and then that message gets archived and can be searched by others.
Is there a newsletter?
Not at this time, there are email bulletins for events and board communications to the membership. We might have one in the future and it has been set as one of our goals.
Do you promote your members to companies who may require clearance and research services?
We offer a job posting arena for Entertainment Employers looking for clearance professionals. We do not actively seek employment for members but try to promote the membership to employers through word of mouth. We also rely on the members to refer employers to the group to post a job. Many companies know our group and post jobs regularly. The philosophy is to maintain as high an employment rate as possible within the group so market forces push salary levels higher and create more demand for our services.
What can members do to communicate with each other about this field of expertise?
Our group message list, we call it the CLEAR List, as described in the services section above.
Do you have a list of current members and areas in which they practice?
We do have a membership roster with basic areas of expertise... this is only available to members.
Are there meetings or events?
Yes, we hold 2-3 mixers a year (LA Area only) and 2 seminars per year on topics related to our industry. All events are in Los Angeles and seminars are sometimes recorded for members who live outside our area. See the events section for more info.
